Don't Back Down

Szechuan Empire Restaurant Review »

Nestled alongside the main road through Wadesboro you'll find this building that is pleasant looking enough. It's right next to a motel composed of cabins that isn't particularly nice looking. I'm not particularly familiar with this part of the world, so there may be other places to eat, but since we were in a bit of a rush through town, we wanted to find someplace, and since this popped up along the road and fit the bill of "not fast food", we stopped.

The prices are decent enough, with even the Sunday brunch costing just $6.31 (yes, that's really the price).

Once inside the building, there isn't much to see. The buffet lines much of one side of the room, and offers up a dozen or so generic dishes, along with a reasonable selection of salad fixings. A small corner of the room is set aside as non-smoking, and the room is big enough that you probably won't be troubled by smokers at nearby tables - though you do have to cross over the smoking section to get back to the buffet, which is a bit of a pain.

As to the food, it's okay. Nothing special here, but nothing terrible either. It might have been better than a fast food stop, but probably not by a whole lot. The service wasn't very good either. The sign at the entrance says to wait to be seated, and after a few minutes of standing there like an idiot, the help treats you like you are inconveniencing them by not sitting yourself down. At least they filled drinks with some regularity.
